Community Presbyterian Church believes very strongly that we are
called to be in mission – whether through personal actions, prayer, or
financial resources.
To this end we send 10% of all undesignated offerings (also
called the tithe) to a variety of missions. 1/3 goes to missions in
and around Charlestown and Clark County. 1/3 goes to missions in the
United States. 1/3 goes to missions overseas.
We also give $ 160 a month above our tithe to our local food
bank called the North Clark Outreach Center, which covers the northern
part of Clark County.
Through out the year other opportunities and needs arise which
provide people with ways to help out through their financial gifts.
People may also designate a gift be directed towards or added to
one of our many mission projects.
Below are our current commitments:
July – Our own church’s Social Outreach Fund to help people in
need in our community. 2009 we gave $ 1,030.00 to this fund.
August – Hope Orphanage in Yagoon, Myanmar. Last year our gift
provided them with six outhouse style bathrooms. This year our gift
enabled them to install pipes to carry water to the bathrooms. 2009 we
gave $ 1,548.
September – Ohr Simcha Fellowship House in Israel is an
orphanage providing for children who lost their families due to
terrorist attacks in Israel or anti-Semitism in foreign countries.
2009 we gave $ 2,415.45
October and November - Thru the Elf Tree program in
Charlestown and the Community Needs Ministry in New Washington we buy
clothes for children for Christmas. In 2009 we gave $ 2,487.00 and
bought clothes for 21 children in Charlestown and 5 in New Washington.
December – Family Health Center of Clark County – Charlestown
branch. This provides medical care on a sliding scale to people
without insurance or other resources.
January – Metro Ministries, Inc. in New York City provides
Sunday School (on Saturdays) to 1,500 inner city children, along with
mid-week visits to the home. We help provide the materials they need.
February – Day Care Centers in Israel supported by the
International Fellowship of Christians and Jews – provides shelter,
nutritious food, and medical care to the poor.
March – The Heifer Project International provides a breeding
pair of animals and training to a family in their breeding and care,
to give families a continuous source of food for a family in the U.S.
April - Still open
May – Still open
June – Heifer Project International for a family overseas.
We also sponsor and make available to the northern part of Clark
County the Angel Food Ministry that enables the purchase of a week of
food for a family of four for $ 30. Other food options are available.
This is offered each month.
From time to time we have sponsored and/or sent people on
mission trips to Nicaragua, Australia, Mexico, Cambodia, and Canada.
