The people of Community Presbyterian Church are a conservative group of people, believing the Bible is God’s Word, conserving the truth of its teachings, creating our own traditions rooted in the Word. We are a flexible and adaptable people learning to live under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, for the praise of Jesus Christ and the glory of God the Father.

We come from many different backgrounds. Some of us grew-up in traditional Presbyterian churches. Others grew-up in churches of other denominations. Some of us came here with little to no background in the Christian faith. What we have found is that together we are developing a love relationship with Jesus. We love the Lord Jesus Christ and want to be His. We have seasons when we are very good at following Him. In other seasons we struggle with ourselves and with life itself. Sometimes our faith is solid and strong. At other times we feel doubt. Questions of all sorts fill our minds and hearts. Always, though, we find ourselves coming back home to Jesus.

Those of us with a church background accept our differing styles of worship. Some have a traditional Presbyterian background in worship – which tends to be quiet and meditative with hymns emphasizing our relationship with God as a community. A relationship with God tends to grow organically through time spent in prayer, Bible Study, and service to others and to one another. A more reserved people, they tend to lack terms to describe their growing closeness to and love they have for God.

Others have an evangelical background in worship. This style tends to be more expressive and uses  more personal and intimate terms to describe their relationship with Jesus. It emphasizes opportunities to accept and receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. The hymns and choruses talk of a personal relationship with Jesus. Testimonies to God’s work in their lives is some times a part of their worship services.

Some of us come from a charismatic background in worship. This style of worship tends to be more expressive, demonstrative and vocal. The music focuses on words from the Bible. Choruses with their repetition, enable people to meditate on the major thoughts and themes in Scripture. The music is often accompanied by raised hands, clapping, and moving to the beat – much like ballet dancing does in relationship to the music being sung. They tend to use very personal terms when talking about their relationship with God. Their worship invites people to enter into an experience with God Himself.

In our church we want people to feel free to worship as they feel led.
